Hey Girls!
This post was inspired by GlossyBoxUK’s Makeup Expiry Date Picture that they posted on their Facebook page. I thought it would be a good idea to make a post on when to throw your makeup away!
Makeup doesn’t last forever. Like food, your makeup items has an expiry date too. It may not say it on the packaging but it should become common knowledge to know when to throw your makeup items away! I hold my hands up and admit that I still have makeup items that are over a year old but they will go in the bin after this post I promise! I wish that companies would put on their website or packaging that the item should be thrown away in X amount of days.
WHY SHOULD YOU THROW THEM AWAY?
We should throw makeup items away after the correct amount of months to prevent infections and bacteria spreading. Some people don’t realize but each time you use your makeup you are putting bacteria not only onto the product, but it goes back onto your face too. For example, if you use a concealer stick on a blemish on your face, the bacteria from the spot will transfer onto the concealer stick. If you then use your concealer on a non spotty area on your face you are highly likely to have a spot appear in that very place because of the bacteria from the previous spot. Another example is Mascara wands. If you have a minor eye infection (which sometimes isn’t always noticeable) and you use your mascara on that eye, you are putting the bacteria onto the mascara wand which when used next time will cause ANOTHER eye infection or make the current eye infection worse.
By removing and replacing your makeup items every few months you are keeping your skin healthy! It’s not just skincare products that keep your skin in tact, it’s your makeup products too!
